Ranger Ridge

Ranger Ridge is a classic early-season hike in the Elbow Valley.
It starts on the Fullterton Loop trail, then continues up and around the ridgeline. I usually end up doing this early every spring.
This time we had a nice day, and good trails.

The trail along the Fullerton Loop.

Hiking through the Pine forest.

Lunch break just above the Loop.

Back into the forest for the return.

One of the largest middens I've come upon.
A midden is where squirrels drop the bits of cones and nuts they don't eat, which eventually pile into a stack they can use to hide next year's cones.
They grow over the years, and I've seen a number of large sprawling ones, but this was impressively tall.
